Yaoi and Slash Fans - Please Help!

My name is Dr. Sarah Moon, also known as MistressArachnia. I am currently a graduate student at the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco, California, finishing a Doctoral degree in Human Sexuality.

One of the program requirements includes completing a basic research project whereby 100 sex profiles of a homogeneous group are obtained and analyzed amongst a random sample.  This is a longitudinal study that was started over 30 years ago by sexologist Dr. Alfred Kinsey.   To date, over 30,000 sex profiles have been collected, compared, and analyzed.

The group from which I have chosen to obtain profiles is individuals who participate in fandoms based around male-male pairings.  This includes but is not limited to shounen-ai, yaoi, boys love, and slash.  You do not need to be an artist or writer to take the survey; enjoyment of the genera is enough to qualify.

For those familiar with survey design and/or social intersectional analysis, you will recognize that the profile questions may be either leading, outdated, and with limited options available.  I, my professors, and my peers fully recognize the shortcomings of the profile’s design.  The questionnaire was designed over 30 years ago and has purposely and consistently been utilized to obtain sex profiles for its original intent of gathering information on people’s feelings and behaviors regarding particular sexual practices.  Thus, I am unable to amend any of the questions to reflect current understandings of sex and sexual behavior.

This particular questionnaire will only be distributed online and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. The questionnaire does not ask for any personally identifiable information, so all responses will remain confidential and anonymous.  Completed profiles will be printed, compared and analyzed, and then will become property of the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality.  Once 100 profiles are collected electronically, the online questionnaire will be removed.
